While I enjoyed sharing my knowledge with students, I also continued to
exercise my creativity by developing original designs. The positive response
that I received as a result of those designs was the foundation of BGC Custom
Designs. I discontinued my “teaching” career, and jumped solely into designing,
developing, and producing unique custom work for others. I fully DELIGHT in
having my hands in the clay at my studio, and enjoy seeing the delight in my
customers’ eyes as well!
My technique consists of slip casting or a unique combination of slip casting
and hand building. Two forms of clay are used; liquid clay, called slip, and a
white earthenware “block” clay. The slip cast base must be kept at the
correct moisture level, while I hand form the “block” clay into fun shapes and
designs. The hand formed shapes are then applied to the base, one piece at a
time, using slip. The piece is air dried, and then fired in the kiln at
approximately 2000 degrees. When the kiln is cooled, the piece is removed,
painted with vibrant fun colors, signed by me, glazed, and then re-fired at
approximately 1800 degrees. After cooling, the piece is complete!
All of my pieces are not only whimsical, fun, and bright, but functional as well.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy creating them for you!!
Best regards,
Bonnie
My passion for ceramics began in 1981 by making
custom ceramic items as gifts for my family and
friends. After many years of learning and “playing”
in clay, I decided to share my ideas with others
and became a certified ceramics teacher.
